It is with heavy hearts and deep shock that we announce the passing of Joshua Qiyuk, a beloved 21-year-old Inuk man from Baker Lake, who tragically left us too soon. Joshua was a sweet, bright soul who touched everyone around him with his warmth, determination, and genuine spirit. His untimely death has left a void in the hearts of his family, friends, colleagues, and the community at large.

    Joshua’s Journey and Legacy

Joshua’s journey began when he first came to C’est Bon as a teenager to participate in a workshop, thanks to the @inuittapiriitkanatami youth program and the mentorship of @trudymetcalfe1965. His passion and enthusiasm were immediately apparent, and C’est Bon quickly recognized his potential, hiring him as a kitchen staff member. His interest in cooking was nurtured by Georges, who became a mentor, encouraging Joshua to pursue the culinary arts. This guidance sparked a fire in Joshua, and he went on to graduate from Algonquin College with a culinary management degree.

Joshua’s hard work and dedication were evident in everything he did. At @absinthecafe, his second family, he absorbed every lesson and worked tirelessly, always showing gratitude for the opportunity. His humility and quiet determination made him a role model not just in the kitchen, but in the community. Joshua’s presence was a light in any room, and his infectious smile and genuine kindness left an indelible mark on all who knew him.

A Role Model for His Inuit Community

Joshua was not only building a career but also shaping his future in a way that inspired others, particularly within his Inuit community. He was a shining light, embodying the values of hard work, humility, and perseverance, and showing others that great things could be achieved through dedication and passion.

His family, colleagues, and friends remember Joshua as someone who was always focused and selfless, never asking for anything but constantly giving his best. He was a person who genuinely cared for those around him, and his impact on those who worked with him is immeasurable.

    Support for Joshua’s Family

In these difficult times, the C’est Bon community has extended its support by making a donation to Joshua’s family, and we invite others to do the same. Donations can be made via e-transfer at [email protected] until further details about arrangements are shared.

Joshua’s family, friends, and the entire culinary community are in our thoughts and prayers as they cope with this unimaginable loss. Joshua’s memory will live on, and his legacy will continue to inspire others for years to come.

    Closing

Joshua Qiyuk’s passing leaves a deep hole in the hearts of all who knew him. We are better people for having known him, and we will forever cherish the memories of his bright smile, his kindness, and his dedication to his craft. Joshua, tu nous tiens à coeur. You will not be forgotten.

    Rest in peace, Joshua.
