Early on the morning of November 1, 2025, the quiet of the neighborhood around Acero Avenue and Anasazi Street in Pueblo was shattered by the crack of gunfire. Just before 2:30 a.m., the city’s ShotSpotter system detected approximately 15 rounds in rapid succession near the area of the Mountain View Cemetery and Northern Avenue, prompting a swift response from the Pueblo Police Department.

When officers arrived, they discovered a man lying on the street, critically wounded from gunshots. Despite the efforts of first-responders, the young man was pronounced dead at the scene. The victim was later identified as 20-year-old Bryce Woolery, a Pueblo resident whose life was abruptly cut short.

By midday the same day, detectives had arrested a suspect: 25-year-old Darian Cocilo, who now faces charges of first-degree murder and battery. According to the police, Cocilo is being held at the Pueblo County Jail on a $750,000 cash bond. At this point, investigators have not released any motive for the shooting. The police describe this as an isolated incident and have not linked it to other fatal shootings that occurred in the area around the same time.

The city also marked this tragedy as its 11th homicide of the year—a grim milestone for Pueblo. For comparison, there had been 17 homicides in the same period last year, underscoring a troubling shift in community safety metrics. Friends and family remembered Bryce as a kind-hearted young man whose willingness to help others was his hallmark. His sudden death has rippled across his circle, leaving a deep void. Loved ones say his laughter lit up rooms; now they cling to those memories, grieving the future that will never be.

In the days ahead, the Pueblo Police Department is urging anyone with information about the incident to come forward. They believe that even small pieces of information could be crucial in piecing together the full story of what happened that night. Meanwhile, the community remains shaken—a reminder that behind statistics and arrests lie real lives lost and families left to pick up the pieces.

As the investigation continues, the focus turns both to accountability and remembrance: the legal system working to bring justice and a community working to heal. Bryce’s life may have been cut short, but for those who knew him, his legacy lives on in the kindness he showed, the laughter he shared, and the loss his passing leaves behind.
