A grim scene unfolded around 4:17 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 2 in Shreveport, La., when what was initially believed to be a traffic accident turned out to be a deadly shooting. Responding officers from the Shreveport Police Department (SPD) arrived at the intersection of Claiborne Avenue and Queens Highway and discovered a man and a woman inside a vehicle who had both been shot.

Inside the vehicle with them was a young child, who thankfully was found unharmed. The woman, identified as “Armoni,” had life-threatening injuries and was transported to a hospital, but she later succumbed to her wounds. The man is reportedly in critical condition.

A Police unit responds to the scene of an emergency.

Investigators say the call to SPD came as an accident report, but once officers arrived they quickly determined it was a shooting. The vehicle was found crashed or pulled over at that intersection, and the scene changed the nature of the response. Authorities have urged anyone with information to contact the SPD tip line as the investigation into how and why the shooting occurred is underway.

This incident has shaken the local community, not only because of the loss of life but because a young child was present during the attack. Many neighbors expressed how they were recently planning for the holidays, now facing grief and questions instead. Residents along that stretch of Claiborne Avenue say they often see children riding in vehicles, families out and about, and to have such violence so close leaves many unsettled.

The woman’s death underscores a growing concern over shootings in the city. Local advocates say more needs to be done on preventive policing and community outreach to ensure children aren’t caught in the crossfire of adult conflicts. One local resident said, “We tell our kids to buckle in and ride safe—but we never imagine they have to buckle in for something like this.”

At this time, the SPD has not released further details on suspects, motive, or whether the incident was targeted. They confirmed that the male victim’s condition remains life-threatening, and that the case remains open, with detectives asking anyone who may have seen or heard anything around Claiborne Avenue and Queens Highway Sunday afternoon to come forward.

If you have any information regarding the shooting, you’re urged to reach out to the SPD at (318) 673-7300.
