    Columbia County, GA – November 5, 2025 – Columbia County Fire Rescue is mourning the tragic loss of Kalif Leslie Daly, a fire recruit who passed away on November 4, 2025, while participating in the Firefighter Training Program. Daly, a member of the latest recruit class, was taken to the hospital after feeling unwell during physical training. Despite medical efforts, he passed away shortly after arriving at the hospital.

    What Happened

    Kalif Daly was undergoing routine physical training as part of his firefighter recruit program when he began to feel unwell. Emergency medical services were immediately called, and Daly was transported to the hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. The cause of his death has not been disclosed at this time.

    Chief Jeremy Wallen’s Statement

    In a statement released by Columbia County Fire Rescue, Chief Jeremy Wallen expressed deep sorrow, saying, “This loss has deeply affected us all. Columbia County Fire Rescue is more than a department, we are family. The bond we share, the brotherhood and sisterhood of the fire service, is built on trust, strength, and shared purpose. Though his time with us was far too short, he will always be a member of the Columbia County Fire Rescue family.”

    The entire fire department has been shaken by the loss, with the press release extending condolences to Daly’s wife, family, friends, classmates, and colleagues. “The entire department is devastated by this loss. We extend our deepest condolences to the recruit’s wife and family, friends, classmates, and department as we all grieve together. In times like this, we lean in on one another,” the statement continued.

    Columbia County Fire Rescue has asked for privacy as Daly’s family and colleagues cope with the tragedy. They expressed gratitude for the support from the community and surrounding fire departments, urging people to keep Recruit Daly’s loved ones and the fire department in their thoughts and prayers.
