Castaic, Calif. | November 8, 2025-An investigation is underway following a fatal accident on the northbound 5 Freeway near Templin Highway on Saturday night that led to the tragic death of 60-year-old Bulmaro Alvarez Chavez. The collision, which involved a suspected drunk driver, occurred at approximately 11:10 p.m., when Chavez was thrown from his vehicle during the crash.
Details of the Accident
According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP) Newhall Area Office, officers arrived at the scene to find Chavez, the driver of a white Jeep Cherokee, ejected from his vehicle and suffering from fatal injuries. Despite the efforts of emergency responders, Chavez was declared dead at the scene.
The other vehicle involved in the accident, a silver Toyota Camry, was driven by 21-year-old Martin Enrique Cazares from Wasco. Investigators determined that Cazares was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash. Following the investigation, Cazares was taken into custody and booked at the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station on charges of felony DUI and felony vehicular manslaughter.
