Late Wednesday evening, the tight-knit neighborhoods of south Arlington and Cedar Hill were stunned by the senseless death of 24-year-old Bre’Asia Simone of Cedar Hill after her vehicle was hit by gunfire while traveling westbound on Interstate 20 near Bowman Springs Road. According to the Arlington Police Department, the call came in at approximately 7:40 p.m., when her driver pulled into a gas station in the 4900 block of Little Road seeking help.

The scene that greeted officers was terrifying: the adult male driver was found inside the vehicle with apparent gunshot wounds, and Bre’Asia was unresponsive. She was rushed to a nearby hospital, but despite efforts to save her life, she was pronounced dead. Detectives are still working to identify suspects and motives, and no arrests have been announced at this time.

Authorities say two children were also in the vehicle when the shots rang out. They were transported to Medical City Arlington for observation. A second car nearby was struck by gunfire as well, though thankfully its occupants weren’t injured.

Preliminary information suggests that Bre’Asia may have been carrying a child at the time of the shooting, a detail that deepens the grief felt by those who knew her. While the medical examiner’s office will formally release her identity once next of kin are informed, many in the community have already begun honoring her memory.

Friends and neighbors remember Bre’Asia as warm-hearted, generous, full of sparkle. “She was always the one to check on you, make sure you were alright,” said one Cedar Hill resident. Now, her loss is a reminder of how fragile life can be — and how gun violence ripples far beyond the initial act.

Investigators say the shooting happened while Bre’Asia and the others were traveling on I-20. The driver, despite being wounded, managed to reach the gas station and call for help. Police are piecing together the moment the vehicle came under fire and who may be responsible. They’re asking anyone with information to contact Detective Allison Allen at 817-575-8613 or – anonymously via Crime Stoppers of Tarrant County at 817-469-8477.

As Arlington mourns, the families of the victims and the broader community are coming together — offering prayers, sharing meals, and holding each other up in this dark hour. In the loss of Bre’Asia, a life full of promise and love is gone, and the echoes of that absence are being felt by all who knew her.
