Perkinston, Miss. — The Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College family is heartbroken after the sudden death of freshman men’s soccer player Landon Perry, who died Sunday afternoon when a vehicle struck him while he was riding an electric scooter. The accident happened on Perkinston‑Silver Run Road, just west of the MGCCC campus. Stone County Coroner Wayne Flurry called it a “tragic accident,” saying the force of the impact left no chance for survival.

Landon was only 18. He had recently joined MGCCC after graduating from D’Iberville High School, where he was a standout on the soccer team. In January, he signed with Gulf Coast, excited for a new chapter and eager to prove himself at the collegiate level.

His coaches and teammates remember him as more than just talented—he was driven, sincere, and a natural leader both on and off the field. His commitment to hard work and his humility made him a quickly beloved member of the Gulf Coast community. Athletes and students alike are reeling from the news, struggling to make sense of a life that ended far too early.

MGCCC Athletic Director Steven Campbell expressed deep sorrow, saying, “Our prayers go out to the Perry family. Landon was an outstanding young man and will always be a cherished member of the Gulf Coast family.”

As of now, authorities have not released any details about possible charges or what might have contributed to the crash. Investigations are ongoing, and no further information has been made public about whether alcohol, speed, or other factors played a role.

Friends, family, and the wider Gulf Coast community are united in grief. Many are remembering Landon not just as a gifted athlete, but as a kind, hardworking person full of promise, whose future seemed bright. His passing has cast a shadow over the campus, leaving everyone to wonder what might have been.

In moments like these, the community has rallied around his loved ones, sharing thoughts, condolences, and memories. Though he’s gone, Landon’s impact lingers: in the locker room, in the halls of MGCCC, and in the hearts of everyone who knew him.
