    The Anderson community is in mourning following a tragic accident that occurred on the intersection of MLK Blvd and Whitehall Road. One individual, identified as Charles “Chuck” Coggins, a former South Carolina Highway Patrol Trooper, has died as a result of the collision. The incident also left two other people critically injured and requiring emergency medical attention.

    On the afternoon of the crash, emergency responders were called to the scene of a two-vehicle collision at the intersection of Whitehall Road and MLK Blvd. Coggins, a 67-year-old former trooper, was the front passenger in a 1967 Pontiac GTO involved in the crash. Despite the prompt response from local first responders, including the Anderson City Fire Department, Anderson City Police, and South Carolina Highway Patrol, Coggins was declared dead at the scene.

    Two other individuals were critically injured in the crash and were airlifted to Prisma Greenville by Life Flight and MedTrans One helicopters. The Anderson County Coroner’s Office confirmed Coggins’ death but has not released further details on the cause or other victims involved.
