The U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) recently announced a successful operation in southern Syria, aimed at dismantling ISIS’s military capabilities. Working alongside the Syrian Ministry of Interior, U.S. forces targeted over 15 concealed ISIS weapons caches throughout Rif Damashq province. This joint operation took place from November 24 to November 27.

During this coordinated effort, CENTCOM reported the destruction of significant military resources, including over 130 mortars, various assault rifles, machine guns, and materials used to make improvised explosive devices. Additionally, authorities uncovered and eliminated illegal drugs linked to these caches.

ISIS, which gained traction during the Syrian civil war and the instability in Iraq, has been significantly weakened by a coalition led by the U.S. under President Donald Trump. However, the group has recently managed to regroup, necessitating ongoing U.S. military action to prevent any resurgence.

Adm. Brad Cooper, CENTCOM’s commander, emphasized the importance of this operation, stating that it ensures previous gains against ISIS are upheld and reduces the risk of the group launching attacks on American soil or elsewhere.

Cooper reaffirmed that U.S. forces will remain vigilant and proactive in their efforts to target remnants of ISIS in the region.

This operation also highlights a developing partnership between the United States and the current Syrian government, now led by President Ahmed al-Sharaa, a former member of al-Qaeda. This collaboration underscores a shift in approach as the U.S. continues to navigate complex Middle Eastern dynamics.
