GREELEY, Colo. — 18-year-old Aden Alcide Jeannoutot was confirmed Friday by the Weld County Coroner’s Office as the man fatally shot by a police officer outside North Colorado Medical Center (NCMC) during a traffic stop on Wednesday afternoon.
According to the investigative team, 19th Judicial Critical Incident Response Team (CIRT), the incident began around 3:50 p.m. near the intersection of 21st Avenue and 16th Street after a Greeley officer attempted to stop a vehicle carrying two people. The driver, a woman, exited without incident — but Jeannoutot, the male passenger, remained inside, seated in the passenger side.
The officer knew Jeannoutot had an active felony warrant. After requesting he exit the vehicle, the officer says Jeannoutot ignored repeated commands and instead reached toward a bag on his lap.
When Jeannoutot failed to comply, the officer fired. First responders attempted resuscitation and rushed him to the hospital, but he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival. No officers were injured.
Court records show Jeannoutot had faced multiple theft and menacing charges in Weld County, all from June. He had been released on personal recognizance bonds. The felony warrant was issued in August after he failed to appear in court for a theft case.
