In the early hours of Saturday, 24-year-old Manchester resident Nickenley Turenne was fatally shot by police following a dramatic vehicle chase and foot pursuit on South Mammoth Road — a neighborhood now shaken by what unfolded.

Just before 4:45 a.m., officers from the Manchester Police Department responded to a tip about a suspicious vehicle parked near Green Acres Elementary School. Inside were a man and a woman, both asleep — the man behind the wheel, later identified as Turenne. Upon being awakened by officers, Turenne sped off. The police gave chase, and the vehicle finally crashed into the yard of a home on South Mammoth Road.

Turenne didn’t stop. He fled on foot toward 293 South Mammoth Road, prompting a second confrontation with officers. In that encounter, three officers discharged their service weapons, striking him multiple times. Emergency services were called immediately, and although officers tried life-saving measures, Turenne died after being rushed to the hospital.

An autopsy performed by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner ruled the cause of death as multiple gunshot wounds, and the manner of death as homicide — meaning death caused by another person.

The shooting triggered an immediate investigation by the New Hampshire Department of Justice and the New Hampshire State Police Major Crime Unit. All three officers involved have been placed on paid administrative leave, standard procedure in such cases. Their identities remain under wraps pending formal interviews.

Neighbors describe a quiet, family-oriented street — until that early Saturday brought the sound of rapid gunfire that rattled homes and shocked residents. One homeowner said she woke up around 5 a.m. to “rapid fire about five times.” She looked out to see a body lying in her front yard. The tranquil neighborhood, she said, “has never seen anything like that.”

This incident marks the ninth officer-involved shooting in the state of New Hampshire so far in 2025 — matching the total for all of 2024 and representing a record high for the decade.

The investigation remains active. Authorities say more details will be released when appropriate, and all body-camera footage will be reviewed as part of the inquiry. Until then, the community and the victim’s family are left grappling with a tragic, early-morning turn of events.
