The 2025 college football season saw Brigham Young University (BYU) achieve a remarkable 12-2 record. Despite missing out on the College Football Playoff, the team, led by coach Kalani Sitake, showcased resilience and determination throughout the year. Some observers are calling this one of BYU’s best teams ever.

BYU faced a challenging schedule, losing only to Texas Tech. They secured a 25-21 victory over Georgia Tech in the Pop-Tarts Bowl, capping off a season marked by exciting wins and nail-biting finishes.

One of the season’s defining characteristics was BYU’s ability to rally from behind. The team demonstrated a knack for turning potential losses into victories, a trait that resonated with fans.

According to BYU football media relations, the team’s five wins in games where they trailed by double digits were the most in the nation. This ability to overcome adversity was particularly evident in several road games.

BYU fans showed strong support, often creating a home-like atmosphere at away games. This was evident at the Pop-Tarts Bowl, where BYU fans made up the majority of the crowd.

Notable comeback victories included a 24-21 win against Colorado after trailing 14-0, a 33-27 victory over Arizona after being down 24-14, and a 41-27 win against Iowa State after trailing 24-10. They also defeated UCF 41-21 after trailing 14-0 and Georgia Tech 25-21 after trailing 21-10.

The Pop-Tarts Bowl win was especially impressive, considering injuries to key players like LJ Martin and Jack Kelly, and quarterback Bear Bachmeier playing with an injured ankle.

BYU also secured a significant win against their rival, Utah, with a 24-21 victory after trailing 14-10.

In the fourth quarter of games, BYU outscored their opponents 131-68. In their five double-digit comeback wins, they outscored opponents 49-7 in the fourth quarter.

Coach Sitake acknowledged the team’s tendency to fall behind and expressed a desire to start stronger in future games. He praised the team’s accomplishments and looked forward to building on their momentum in the upcoming season.

The 2025 season marked BYU’s most wins in consecutive seasons since 1984 and 1985.

BYU’s schedule included wins against several teams with eight or more victories, including Arizona, East Carolina, Iowa State, and TCU.

Coach Sitake highlighted the team’s talent and leadership, emphasizing the players’ ability to connect with both younger and older teammates.

As of the end of the season, Sitake’s record at BYU stood at 84-45.

Looking ahead, BYU faces potential changes in its coaching staff, with defensive coordinator Jay Hill and offensive coordinator Aaron Roderick possibly moving on to other opportunities.

Despite not being considered a dominant team in every game, BYU’s resilience and ability to win close games earned them recognition.

Coach Sitake remained positive about the team’s performance and focused on moving forward.

Safety Tanner Wall expressed gratitude for the team’s accomplishments and the support from coaches, staff, and fans.

BYU is set to finish the season ranked in the AP poll for the 21st time in its history, marking a significant achievement for the program.
