A Boston man made a priceless discovery while helping his mom clean out her home — an ancestor’s freedom papers. Aaron Haynes first found the document in 2020 during the COVID-19 lockdown, per WCVB 5. He said he found a small leather pouch containing a folded piece of paper, but he didn’t initially know what it was. “I opened it up and looked at it and was very confused as to what this might be,” he recalled while speaking to the outlet. “And [my mom] said, ‘That’s your ancestor’s freedom papers.’ And I said, ‘Hold on!’ ” Freedom papers were…

Colorado state regulators say a fuel contamination incident across the Front Range affected 49 gas stations and more than 1,000 drivers. Investigators say diesel fuel was accidentally mixed with regular unleaded gasoline, leaving many drivers unable to start or operate their vehicles. The issue impacted people from Breckenridge to Fort Collins and across the Denver metro area. Cher Haavind, Deputy Executive Director with the Colorado Department of Labor and Employment, says this situation is rare. “In fact, I believe in the last 20 years, this is only the second occurrence,” said Haavind. Investigators say the contamination happened when a valve was…

Visitors to the U.S. Capitol will now have a visible marker of the siege there on Jan. 6, 2021 and a reminder of the officers who fought and were injured that day. Steps from the Capitol’s West Front and where the worst of the fighting occurred, workers quietly have installed a plaque honoring the officers, three years after it was required by law to be erected. The plaque was placed on the Senate side of the hallway because that chamber voted unanimously in January to install it after House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., had delayed putting it up. “On behalf…

Emma Oliver grew up around planes. She says that’s what sparked her interest in aviation. “Honestly, since I was a child, I really loved aviation,” Oliver said. “With my aunts being flight attendants and my grandfather being a ground crew member for Continental and now United, and my uncle also being an air traffic controller, I was always taking flights, being at the airport, seeing planes flying over.” But it wasn’t until the Mile High Flight Program introduced her to a Black woman pilot that she felt inspired to soar higher than she ever imagined. “It was a really great experience…

Eggs used to be a regular part of breakfast. But as prices went up in Colorado and elsewhere, demand increased, and donations slowed, something simple but meaningful began to disappear from the plate. Mark Sorency hopes to help change that. “I’ve acquired the ability to crack two at a time,” Sorency says. “I’m trying to figure out how to crack four at a time. I’ve seen a guy on YouTube that can do it.” While Sorency works on improving his egg-cracking skills, he’s also focused on growing the Eggcellent Breakfast Foundation, a small effort he started to help provide eggs…

Reports say the Eagles are finalizing a three-year, $78 million contract extension with the star defensive tackle that includes $65 million guaranteed. Davis finished the season with a career-high 70 tackles, nine tackles for loss and 4.5 sacks. But it was his 61-yard return of a blocked kick for a game-sealing touchdown against the Rams that highlighted the defensive tackle’s…

The court system says a QR code is included in the message. Anyone who receives this scam message is urged to ignore it and not scan the QR code. Philadelphia Courts will never send…

New York City Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch says at least one suspicious device recovered during clashing protests outside Gracie Mansion, the official residence of Mayor Zohran Mamdani, was an improvised explosive. Remains found in Delaware County’s Ridley Creek State Park actually belonged to a deer, not a human, Pennsylvania State Police said.
