At approximately 3:45 a.m., a 2000 Chevrolet Blazer traveling northbound veered off the left side of the roadway and struck a tree in the median. The impact caused the vehicle to catch fire.

    The driver, 24-year-old Tyler M. Simmons of Hayes, Virginia, was partially ejected from the vehicle and sustained severe injuries. He was transported to a local hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries. Authorities reported that Simmons was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
