MOSS POINT, Miss. (September 2025) — A tragic shootout in Moss Point has left 61-year-old Richard McBride dead. McBride, a former mayoral candidate and longtime resident of the city, was involved in a deadly confrontation on Monday evening.

    What Happened:

At approximately 8:00 p.m. on Monday, McBride and another individual were engaged in a shootout on Donovan Street. According to Jackson County Coroner Bruce Lynd, McBride suffered a fatal gunshot wound during the incident. The victim was rushed to Singing River Hospital, where he was pronounced dead around 8:15 p.m.

The other shooter was also injured and taken to the hospital, but their identity is currently being withheld while authorities investigate the circumstances surrounding the altercation.
