Maria Goretti Boyle Death and Obituary – The community of Dungiven, Co. Derry, is mourning the loss of Maria Goretti Boyle, who passed away peacefully at Causeway Hospital on August 11, 2025. A beloved resident of 129 Priory Road, she was known for her quiet dedication, strong faith, and life of service.

Born into a large and close-knit family, Maria Goretti was the daughter of the late Robert and Annie Boyle. She was predeceased by her brother Colm, and is lovingly remembered by her surviving siblings: Anne (Sr. Maria Corona – Loreto Order), Mary, Sarah, Veronica, Phonsie, Margaret Rose, and Dolores. The bonds she shared with her family were marked by warmth, loyalty, and mutual care, qualities that reflected her deep-rooted values.

For many years, Maria Goretti served as housekeeper to the Reverend A.P. O’Reilly, a role she fulfilled with devotion, discretion, and humility. Those who knew her speak of her as a woman of unwavering faith, a steadfast friend, and someone who found joy in simple acts of kindness. Her life was a testament to selflessness, whether in her work within the parish community or her quiet support of charitable causes.

Her funeral arrangements reflect both tradition and personal choice. A private wake will be held for close family and friends. The Requiem Mass is scheduled for Thursday, August 14, 2025, at Saint Patrick’s Church, Dungiven, with interment in the adjoining cemetery. The family has requested family flowers only, with donations in lieu directed to the Saint Vincent De Paul Society, continuing Maria Goretti’s lifelong concern for those in need. For those unable to attend in person, the service will be live-streamed via the church’s website, allowing the wider community to take part in honoring her memory.

It is important to clarify that while online searches for “Maria Goretti Boyle death” may yield results for Saint Maria Goretti—an Italian Catholic saint who died in 1902—the two are entirely different individuals. Maria Goretti Boyle was a private citizen from Northern Ireland whose life and legacy are distinct from that of the canonized saint. This distinction is crucial to ensure accurate remembrance.

Maria Goretti Boyle will be remembered not only for her work within the parish but also for her gentle spirit, her unshakable faith, and her commitment to the values she cherished. Her life was not lived in pursuit of recognition or material gain, but in service—both to her family and to the Church.

As her loved ones gather to bid her farewell, they will celebrate a woman who embodied grace, dignity, and quiet strength. Her passing leaves a void in the hearts of all who knew her, yet her influence will continue to resonate through the lives she touched. In the prayers and hymns of her Requiem Mass, the community will both mourn her loss and give thanks for her life—a life well-lived in faith, service, and love.
