It is with profound sorrow that we remember Austin Cerda Rodriguez, a bright, loving, and endlessly curious 7-year-old from Kissimmee, Florida, who tragically passed away on October 21, 2025. Austin’s parents, Cesar Avila and Michelle Rodriguez, now face an unimaginable grief as they mourn the loss of their beloved son. His warmth, laughter, and vibrant spirit made every moment with him unforgettable.

Austin’s curious mind brought sparkle wherever he went—whether he was lost in a building set, asking endless questions about the world around him, or sharing impromptu hugs with anyone nearby. Despite his autism, or maybe because of the pure innocence it brought, Austin had a quiet, gentle way of reminding those around him how precious the simplest joys of life could be.

The heartbreak of his passing also reflects a sobering reality: children with autism are at far greater risk of drowning than their neuro-typical peers. In a state like Florida, where lakes, ponds, and backyard pools are part of everyday life, this danger looms especially large. Austin’s story urges us to remember that children like him need not only love and laughter—they need our vigilance, our compassion, and our honest attention.

In the wake of this tragedy the Kissimmee community has rallied with open hearts. A Meal Train has been set up to support Cesar and Michelle as they navigate these uncharted waters of grief. Meals, donations, warm messages—every act of kindness counts and helps ensure that their burden feels just a little lighter. The pain of losing a child is impossible to fully imagine, and yet the love that Austin sparked will not fade. His memory is already woven deeply into the hearts of his family, his friends, and his neighbors. “Forever remembered, forever loved” is the truth of his short but luminous life.

As we reflect on Austin’s bright light and sudden absence, we are reminded of the fragility of life and the power of community—how together we hold each other in moments of crisis, and how a small gesture of compassion can ripple outward in ways we may never fully see. Rest in peace, dear Austin Cerda Rodriguez; you will shine on in our hearts.
